Saturday Snapshot - David Sedaris

In my quest to 'shake things up' a bit for the new year with the blog, Saturday Snapshot is the latest meme to get my attention.

Hosted by Alyce at At Home With Books the guidelines are to post a photo that you or a friend or family member have taken and then link it back to Alyce's original post for the week. Photos can be old or new and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see.

Seems simple enough, and being a non-photograph taker this activity should push me a bit out of my comfort zone.

To the left is my first entry, which I thought appropriate for a book blog and all.

A local University hosts what's called A Festival of Ideas every fall. The Festival invites various scholars, experts, celebrities, etc. to participate in a variety of events related to a specific theme. In 2010 the Festival was shortened due to funding and the organizers hosted just one event - an evening with David Sedaris.

The evening was structured around him reading from his latest book--Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary--and abook signing. I waited in line for almost three hours but it was worth it; to meet and talk with him was awesome. And the inscription above always makes me chuckle!

  2. That is hilarious! It took me a minute to figure out what he had written. (I kept seeing "spay" instead of "spell" which didn't make as much sense.)

    1. Haha - I still do a triple take as I don't see 'spell' right away either. And I was there when he wrote it!

  3. Oh, how exciting for you. My brother-in-law loves David Sedaris' books. He would definitely have stood in line for 3 hours. LOL
