Book Mark: Alias Grace Film in the Works

Courtesy CBC.ca:
Canadian actress and director Sarah Polley will be adapting Margaret Atwood's Giller Prize-winning historical novel Alias Grace into a feature film.

This isn't the first time Polley has brought a Canadian author's work to the big screen. She earned an Oscar nomination for best screenplay for Away From Her, the 2006 movie she adapted from Alice Munro's short story The Bear Came Over the Mountain.

Several stories by Atwood have been developed into stage productions or movies, including The Robber Bride, The Handmaid's Tale, and her debut novel The Edible Woman.

Alias Grace is based on the real-life 19th century murders of Thomas Kinnear and his housekeeper Nancy Montgomery in Upper Canada.

I haven't actually been able to finish Alias Graceso have no insights into its cinematic potential. Polley did an exquisite job with Away from Herthough, so will be interested to see how this adaptation works out.
