Saturday Snapshot is a weekly meme hosted by Alyce at At Home With Books. The guidelines are to post a photo that you or a friend or family member have taken and then link it back to Alyce's original post for the week. Photos can be old or new and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see.
I took these shots with my handy Blackberry yesterday morning (it is the only camera I own). I'm currently working at a new office building and one of its 'claims to fame' is its Designed to LEED GoldⓇ certification. LEED designed office buildings offer cost effective operating systems,
enhanced occupant health and well being and improve employee
productivity. The certification makes sense, given that the building is for two energy companies.
All this focus on LEED produced these strips of blue lights marking the building entrance. These lights are very pretty and distinctive, but they are a bit much first thing each morning.
Walking up to the building feels like walking on an airport runway: stay between the lines and take-off safely!
The blue is almost as bright during the day; I wasn't thinking and forgot to take the same photos during daylight hours.
As an aside, these lights have been hit or miss with people. Last fall when the building opened, someone mistook the lighting for representing the entrance to the parkade and a slight vehicular mishap occurred. Eeck!
Oh wow, are those ever cool. They're so bright and mesmerizing.
ReplyDeleteAnd hypnotic!
DeleteThat is very, very bright. I was thinking you were showing us some kind of light extravaganza. And you are - can see why that might be a little disconcerting early in the morning. LOL
ReplyDeleteIt is some kind of extravaganza alright. And a bit much 6:30am.
DeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteGreat snapshots! I can see why they are confusing. Have a great day!

They were intended to make the building entrance clear to visitors. Their risk management plan obviously didn't take into account drivers!
DeleteOh my goodness, I would definitely need some coffee before facing those lights!
ReplyDeleteHahaha - indeed!
DeleteWow! They are bright!
ReplyDeleteI suspect there is some latent marketing message in having the lights...but I'm too blinded to figure it out. :-)
DeleteThat is so funky!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great word to describe them; wish I had thought of it!
DeleteI can see how they would be confusing -- and awfully bright. A very interesting design.
ReplyDeleteVery nifty; I have not seen anything like this before, outside of an airport.
DeleteWhere are my sunglasses?? LOL
ReplyDeleteHaha - don't think they would help!
DeleteWow. Those are so cool, though, I can see how some people wouldn't like them. I love the lighted steps!
ReplyDeleteI quite like them too. Makes me feel special to be walking up the stairs. I just wish they would light up as I walked, like in the Michael Jackson's Billie Jean music video!
DeleteInteresting shots. I can see how they could be a bit much, and I can also see how someone would drive into them.
