Book Beginnings on Friday

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Katy from A Few More Pages. Instructions are pretty clear: just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading.

 This week's entry - Christopher Buckley's Supreme Courtship







Supreme Court Associate Justice J. Mortimer Brinnin's deteriorating mental condition had been the subject of talk for some months now, but when he showed up for oral argument with his ears wrapped in aluminum foil, the consensus was that the time had come for him to retire.



While this is not exactly my current read--more of re-read right now--this sentence always makes me chuckle a tiny bit. It is a crazy little story yet not so crazy given the reality show takeover of, well, reality.

    That caught my attention. You are right. With all the reality shows today it is not that strange.

    I'm interested to know why the foil? Could it be that he's protecting himself in some way? Sounds hilarious.
