Saturday Snapshot is a weekly meme hosted by Alyce at At Home With Books. The guidelines are to post a photo that you or a friend or family member have taken and then link it back to Alyce's original post for the week. Photos can be old or new and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see.
It has been am interesting couple of weeks around here, with numerous calamities according on a near daily basis. Tuesdays calamity came in the form of a broken toilet lever. Hearing the 'snap' was not a pleasant sound for the evening.
I have never done much in terms of home repairs, etc. but decided this was going to be a good learning project. How hard could it be after all? I did a little sleuthing and determined that the handle likely broke because the seal for the flush valve needed replacing. I contacted a friend who has loads of experience in renovations and off to the Home Depot we went. There I learned that my toilet is an oddity because there is no chain on the toilet flapper. The salesperson didn't believe me, so we looked it up on the iPhone. I never would have thought I would know something more than an 'expert' but bonus for me!
Anyway, got the necessary parts, went home, followed the instructions, and happy to say that within 15 mins all is well again. This may not seem like a big deal--and it really isn't--but this is the first plumbing-related fix I've ever completed on my own. It feels really good to have done repair; gives me confidence for the next calamity coming my way!
I'm impressed. I always rely on my hsuband to fix things, when I probably could if I actually tried. Good job. Here's Mine
ReplyDeleteBathrooms! Good for you for getting that taken care of so quickly. We've been working on ours for months and it's only just now finished - except for a little touchup with the paintbrush and who knows when THAT will get done.
ReplyDeleteYou're very brave! Plumbing is intimidating...
ReplyDeleteSo glad that the repair went well for you! Not a job you want to have serious problems with!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the successful repair! Our toilet handle broke off (the outside part) last year while my husband was on a trip and I was forced to take the project on myself. The inside of the handle was plastic and impossible to unscrew, so on the advice of a man from the hardware store I heated a knife on the stove and melted through what was left of the handle. It cut like butter - it was so cool. (Prior to his advice I had sawed on the thing for ages with no luck.) Three wrong handles later and I finally found one that worked with our system. It lasted for about a week until my husband came home and then he fixed it again. That one broke a few months ago. I think we've finally got a good one now though. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I know the feeling of having done that first repair on one's own - exhilarating!
ReplyDeletethnx
ReplyDeleteCongrats! ALways love that feeling of accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteI think doing it by yourself is a nice practice. However, we can always ask assistance if the job is really hard. A plumbing service perhaps.
