Saturday Snapshot is a weekly meme hosted by Alyce at At Home With Books.
The guidelines are to post a photo that you or a friend or family
member have taken and then link it back to Alyce's original post for
the week. Photos can be old or new and be of any subject as long as
they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see.
Make a pilgrimage yesterday to a bookstore closing. Greenwood's Bookshoppe officially closed its doors yesterday, bringing 33 years of independent book selling to a close. It was a sad moment, to make my last purchase there as it was the store where I purchased my first book in this city 20 years ago. It was also from the owners that I received a $200 gift certificate for best undergraduate honours thesis back in the day.
Here is my final purchase; the middle book seemed appropriate as it is all about changes in the publishing industry.
Support your local book sellers!
It is always sad to hear of the closing of an independent book store. They really bring so much culture to a community.

ReplyDeleteI hate hearing about bookstore closings!
ReplyDeleteAlways so sad when a beloved book store closes. How special, though, that you were able to make a pilgrimage as it was closing!
ReplyDeleteHow sad--another beloved book store gone. It's great that you got to visit before it was gone, though. My favorite used bookshop here in Indiana closed a few years ago...but I didn't know it was shutting down. It was just gone the next time I visited the city where it was.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Snapshot.
That's sad! It sounds like a special place.
ReplyDeleteLocal bookstores closing are so sad. Glad you got to go one more time. Here's Mine
ReplyDeleteVery sad to have bookstores closing. I'm glad you were able to support them.
ReplyDeleteI work in an Independent bookshop too and times are tough. If you love your local shops and want them to stay, spend your money there; not online!
ReplyDeleteI hate to hear of bookstores closing...
